Universities are a microcosm of life experiences. From learning how to pass exams with no sleep to joining clubs. In the end, we’re all trying to survive the process – and if we’re lucky: cultivate a few “I-can’t-believe-I-did-that” stories to think back on and laugh with friends in old age.
For the Adventures ‘R’ Us Crew – UC Santa Cruz was the birthplace of lifelong friendships. This story starts with a club called ISMA (Information Systems Management Association). ISMA was the reason why a group of us started to plan events like scavenger hunts, BBQ fundraisers, and beach bonfires. ISMA gave us a reason to come together, and our shared laughter and experiences cemented a friendship that soon expanded to include others outside the club.

As time passed and members graduated, distance tried to test our friendship – and failed. So what if everyone wasn’t in Santa Cruz? We could still go on adventures, celebrate week-long birthdays in different cities, rent our Airbnb’s for graduation parties — that’s all it took. A few ideas, many more yes’s – and Tahoe 2015 was the first annual cabin trip for this Crew.

A few years later we would start exploring outside of California, Utah 2018 we embraced a whole new level of logistical planning. But one thing remained certain, strong – and true: as we scattered across the country, pursuing our own paths – we found ways to stay connected.
Our yearly cabin trips & late-night gaming zoom chats have become a source of heartfelt connection. Over the years, we have learned that – people come and people go. Even after leaving campus behind, Adventures ‘R’ what keeps Us grounded in our friendships.
